Enjoying Everyday Life
The concept of fun has been understood as a necessary counterpoint to work since ancient times. This is still true today. It unites us across cultures in celebrations of life and it takes many forms. From large-scale constructions for organized events to small informal scenarios, the city cannot be understood without these places for leisure and social gathering. In our troubled times, we need to keep in mind the importance of finding delight in our everyday lives in places where we can relax, recharge and reconnect with ourselves and others. How we perceive and use these spaces for everything from culture to playing or simply for taking a walk is constantly evolving, and architects and designers are continuing to interpret these needs in their designs for now and the future.
