‘Rambling’ has long been a great British pastime, but it’s mostly done along the coast and rural areas. This ingenious book edited by Tom Chivers and Martin Kratz explains to the reader how to navigate the peaks of London (the city has approximately 18 natural hills in all, mostly offering fantastic views.) Twenty-five writers have contributed essays and itineraries that are full of social, topographical and architectural detail. It’s not just the natural peaks they invite us to explore the urban landscape of London, but also manmade ones such the landmark skyscraper The Shard, and the old Battersea Power Station.
