Thomas VonierParis, France
Thomas Vonier is an architect and senior partner in Chesapeake Strategies Ltd, practicing from Paris and Washington DC. He was encouraged to pursue international work by Ron Herron of Archigram and Nathaniel Owings, a founder of SOM. He interned with architects in London and Vienna and has completed projects in Europe, East Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. He was elected to serve as national president of the American Institute of Architects (AIA)—the only architect outside of the US ever to hold that office—and then to a four-year term as president of the International Union of Architects (UIA). He is an avid cyclist and was once in a pretty good rock band.
