Karen Burshtein is a photo editor, translator, and award-winning journalist. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, she studied French Literature and the historical context of architecture in the US and Paris. Her writings have appeared in publications such as Wallpaper, Dwell, Conde Nast Traveller, Travel + Leisure, The Guardian, and The Globe and Mail. Most of her stories focus on the intersection of travel and design; the Chanel suit in the greater context of French culture; Oscar Niemeyer's futuristic Communist Party Headquarters building in Paris; and the building an orphanage (using recycled plastic bottles as wall insulation) in Guatemala. She also works as an arts administrator and film festival organiser.
