Jan Gehl is an architect and urban designer. He cofounded Gehl Architects in 2000 with
Helle Søholt. He held a partner position at the firm until 2011 and he is now active as a Senior
Advisor. His work has been focused on improving the quality of urban life especially with
respect to prioritising pedestrians and cyclists. He has published several highly influential
books including: “Life Between Buildings” (1971), “New City Spaces” (2000), “Public Spaces,
Public Life” (2004), and “Cities for People” (2010). He is an honorary fellow of the RIBA,
AIA, RAIC, and PIA.
