Partially sunken into the icy waters of the North Atlantic Ocean, Under provides a new niche for underwater tourism. Europe’s first underwater restaurant opened in March 2019 and was designed by Snøhetta to provide the unique opportunity of experiencing the submerged universe of marine life. The shipwrecked hunk of monolithic concrete is tipped five and a half meters into the sea, the roughness of its shelf mimicking an artificial reef that attracts limpets and kelp to inhabit it. The restaurant’s name in Norwegian has the dual meaning of ”below” and ”wonder”, aptly describing the extraordinary feeling of dining immersed in the big blue.
